This page contains all of my work to date for Jmore, a Baltimore-based magazine focused on the life and culture of the Jewish community in the Greater Baltimore area.
Exhibition at JMM Honors Righteous Gentile Diplomats During the Holocaust: An article on an amazing exhibit which ran at the Jewish Museum of Maryland in South Baltimore from February to early March 2018 on the efforts of nine diplomats from across the world who risked their reputations, their careers, and even their lives to help save Jews from the Nazis during the Holocaust.
Authors of ‘The Elephant with a Knot in his Trunk’ Tackle Bullying, Being Different: This article is an interview with acclaimed children’s book author Nancy Patz and Pikesville, Md.-based dentist Stuart Sheer, who wrote a book about an elephant who’s bullied for having a knot in his trunk. It’s a thinly veiled metaphor for children with cleft lips and palates, the subject of much of Sheer’s charity work across the world for the past few decades.
Mount Washington Mom Helps the Needy on Thanksgiving Morning: This piece is a profile of a Baltimore mother who goes downtown along with her family every Thanksgiving to help feed the homeless, though not before organizing a massive clothing drive.
How the Cookie Crumbles: While this was my second piece posted on Jmore’s website, it’s actually technically the first article I ever wrote for that publication. It’s a profile of Suzanne Kassel, an Owings Mills, Md.-based baker who’s managed to turn her mondel bread baking into a successful business.
H. Allan Lipsitz Memorial Concert to Feature Namesake’s Son: This, my first piece ever to be posted on Jmore’s website, is an interview with David Lipsitz, a Washington, D.C.-based professional musician who in November 2017 commemorated the 10th anniversary of the death of his father, Allan, by organizing a concert featuring himself and various other musicians at Beth El, the Pikesville, Md.-based congregation where Allan had served as Director of Adult Education.
